2025 PREVIEW
A familiar face takes over the Hornets program with George Howanitz coming out of a brief retirement to return to coaching. His success at Valley View was evident and he is hoping to bring the same winning culture to Honesdale. The Hornets did manage a winning season last year and qualified for the district playoffs, but were hit hard by graduation.
The entire backfield will have to be replaced. After losing a four-year starter, the quarterback is projected to be Abe Bryant. The backfield has experience in Gabe Duda, Kobe White and Manny Edwards. Damian Davis or Karter Lent will be the new fullback. Jakub Randolph is back at wide receiver with Trace Bibber and Cooper McGhie expected to compete for some time. Either Max LaBruno or Cole Dieterich will take over at tight end.
The Hornets are confident they will have some talent up front including returning starters left tackle Charlie Propst and right guard Bobby MacDowell. Owen Phillips is projected to be the left guard, Liam Platt at center, and Logan Dieterich at right guard. Finley Osborne will provide depth on the line.
MacDowell and LaBruno will be the new defensive ends with Dieterich returning at defensive tackle. Landen Bertot, Aiden Evanitsky, Phillips, Osborne, and Davis are all in consideration for playing time inside. Propst is back at inside linebacker and will be backed up by Cole Dieterich and Lent. Duda, Edwards, and Gino Patrisso will play outside linebacker. Zach Meagher and Dontae Joseph will be the new cornerbacks with Bibber providing depth. White is a returning starter at saftey with Wyatt Avery expected to play the other spot. Randolph can play all the secondary positions.
Bibbers returns as the kicker while Duda and Edwards will be the primary return men.
QUOTE FROM COACH HOWANITZ: With a lot of senior starters lost to graduation & different systems being implemented due to a coaching change, it’s going to take the team some time to adjust. With that being said, the nucleus of talent coming back is very good and with great senior leadership, I’d expect us to be very competitive in 2025.
