POCONO MOUNTAIN EAST 28, HONESDALE 7

Pocono Mountain East started its season in dominant fashion Friday night, rolling past Honesdale 28–7 in a non-league contest at home. The Cardinals showcased a balanced attack on both sides of the ball, building an early cushion and never looking back.

East wasted little time seizing momentum. Behind a steady ground game and sharp passing, the Cardinals marched downfield on their opening possessions, turning long drives into touchdowns. Their offensive line set the tone, clearing lanes for runners and giving the quarterback time to work through progressions. By halftime, the Cardinals had established a two-score advantage.

On defense, Pocono Mountain East set the tempo early. The front seven swarmed Honesdale’s rushing attack, forcing the Hornets into long third-down situations. A key red-zone stop late in the second quarter preserved the Cardinals’ lead heading into the break.

The Cardinals didn’t let up after halftime. A quick third-quarter scoring drive extended the margin, and the defense continued to frustrate Honesdale. East’s secondary tightened up, contesting every throw and coming away with a timely interception that stalled a Hornets’ comeback attempt.

Though Honesdale managed to break through for a touchdown in the second half, the Cardinals answered immediately with another sustained drive that put the game out of reach.

Pocono Mountain East finished with 28 unanswered points before Honesdale’s lone score, controlling time of possession and dictating the flow of the game. The Cardinals’ defense capped the night with another stop deep in their own territory to slam the door.
