COLORS: Blue & White

COACH: Stan Yanoski,  3rd Season (10-8)

PIAA: Class 3A

2022 CONFERENCE: LFC Division II

2021 RECORD: 9-3 (3-1 in conference)

STADIUM: Spartan Stadium

Mid Valley brought home 9 wins in 2021, the most by the Spartans since 1991. The offense and defense were very experienced and talented, but now it might be a rebuild as graduation took a heavy toll. It might take some time this year to get the younger players up to speed.

The Spartans will change the offense this season with the change in personnel. Jordan Chmielewski takes over at quarterback while Zack Popko, Marc Esteras and Jakob Lesher should see time at running back. Wide receiver Jaden Carroll is one of few returning starters and will be joined by Shamus Lesher, Connor Hughes, Connor Bartlett and Lesher as the other wide receivers. Charles Davey and Gavin Rapoch are new at tight end.

David Calafut is the only returning offensive lineman. Kaleb Parry will step in at left guard. Rob Mattioli and Aiden Fedorka will compete for the center spot while Michael Wall and Fedorka will be considered at right guard. The right tackle will come down to Dean Walsh, Orion Rosengrant, and Nick Jackson.

The defense was also hit hard by graduation. Parry, Fedorka, and Jackson will be in the mix at defensive end while Dean Walsh is the lone returning starter up front and will play tackle. Calafut and Rosengrant will also be in the rotation. The linebackers are all new with Lesher, Davey, Hughes, and Michael Loven competing for an outside backer spot and Esteras, Rapoch, Ethan Reid and David Vosburg will be looked at inside. Chmielewski is the only returning starter in the defensive backfield at safety. Holt, Carroll, Popko, and Lesher will be considered at the cornerback spots. Linus Bukowski will provide depth.

Davey returns to do the kicking duties and will also be the punter. David Wood is the long snapper.

QUOTE FROM COACH YANOSKI: We have lots of shoes to fill being hit hard by graduation, but our players have responded well and are up for challenging for starting positions. We have a lot of competition at multiple positions which is making our practices more intense and our players more focused. It’s going to be an exciting season for Mid Valley.

Honorable Mention Offensive Line – David Calafut
