2022 PREVIEW

The offseason was an eventful one for West Scranton as Paul Stefani Sr. accepted the head coaching position in the spring and then stepped down this summer. Jake Manetti, who was hired to be a coordinator, will now take over the program. Manetti is only 24, but comes from a rich football culture at Old Forge where he played and coached. It will be a building year for the Invaders who hope they can break their 21-game losing streak this season.

West does have some players returning who got some significant playing time in 2021 including starting quarterback Dan Van Dusky. Caiden Belardi will serve as his backup. Evan Layden-Boddie, who missed last season with an injury, will be in the backfield along with veteran Joe Harris. Harris will also see time at fullback with Shawn Beck. Hunter Baumgardner returns at wide receiver with Taron-Knight-Gueerier, Zayvion Miller, Amir Robinson, and Jon Perez also in the mix. The new tight end will be either Wyatt Waluda or Joe Collins.

The offensive line has three returning starters in center Geoni Simon,  right guard Michael Cole and right tackle Roman King. Chris Marhefka is penciled in at left tackle and Sakari Mack or Rocco Leonard will play left guard.

The defense has plenty of jobs open. Collins, Waluda, Marhefka, and Kyle Shea will be considered for the defensive end spots while Simon, Mack and Leonard will vy for the tackle positions. Beck, Baumgardner, and Zack Deeley will compete for outside linebacker playing time with Cole and Harris on the inside. The cornerbacks will be combination of Knight-Guerrier,  Miller, Laybourn-Boddie, and Shamier Lyons. Robinson, Perez, and Colin Manley are safety candidates.

All special teams spots will be decided in training camp.

QUOTE FROM COACH MANETTI: We are a young team that is adapting to a new system and staff. Overall, a good group of hard working student athletes.
