2022 PREVIEW
The Hawkeyes program continues to try to find their way and now they will bring in a new head coach to lead them. Jason Majiros is familiar with the Hanover Area program. He was an assistant coach under former coach Mike McCree and has experience at several other WVC schools plus Wilkes University. He wants to make Hanover football exciting again so look for that aspect on both sides of the ball.
The Hawks are experiencde on offense with the return of quarterback Christian Torres, running back Aidan Shamaski, fullback Ayden Shortz, receivers Sean Doonan and Joe Cronan and tight end Jonathan Skipalis. The following players will provide depth at the skill positions: quarterback Rahmel Currie; running back and fullback Malachi Downey, Tyler Herbert, Matt Curry, and Jayden Skipalis; wide receivers Luis McCoy, Derek Warman and Currie; tight end Jake Vigorito
How successful Hanover can be will depend on the offensive line. Left tackle Chase Whitman and left guard Zack Kopeck are returning starters. Tyler Garrison and Nichlas Kistner will compete for the center spot. Evan Malet and Aydin Craig are penciled in at the right guard and right tackle respectively.
The Hawkeys gave up 359 points last season, second most in the WVC so the unit will have to improve for them to be competitive. Skipalis and Kopek are back at the defensive ends. Whitman returns at one defensive tackle with Naim Adzemovic, Craig, and Kistner options at the other spot. Shamaski, Torres and Shortz are back at the linebacker. Downey, Vigorito, Herbert, and Jayden Skipalis will provide depth at the position. Dooner returns at safety with Cronan, Currie, and Noah Boehm also competing for playing time. The cornerback spots will see McCoy, Luis Cintron, Bryant Perez, and Warman in the mix.
Ethan Chafin will take over the kicking duties. Currie will be the new punter.
QUOTE FROM COACH MAJIROS: Although we have a lot of returning players and seniors, we will still be very young. Many of the returners will be in different positions and have different roles. The quicker we can adjust to this the better off we will be. Looking to get our players to play aggressive and fast, on both sides of the ball. The lines on both sides of the ball will be an integral part early on in the season. Our players need to continue focusing on the little things, continuing to get better. Would like to be a competitive team on a weekly basis.
