2020 PREVIEW
The Buckhorns won a divisio title in 2018, but took a step back last season. With an experienced backfield, Coach Mark Watson is hoping they can regain that magic and challenge again. Paupack also moved down to Class 4A so they will have new competition for districts.
Alex Gardsy had a gutsy junior as he had to play behind a rebuilt offensive line, but that year of experience should benefit him in 2020. He has both backs returning – tailback Shadrak Agyei and fullback Seamus Smith. Hunter Vargo is a returning starter at wide receiver. TJ Schmalzle, Tyler Kapschull, Justin Stella and Chris Quigley will see time at the position. Several candidates are vying for playing time at tight end – Nick Parrella, Mabret Levant and Tommy Dowd
Jeff Williams and Liam Smith are returning starters on the offensive line. David Chapman, Nick Seretis and Jake Labelle will fill the other three spots.
Three new starters will be on the defensive line in Angel Campos, Sam Filip and Liam Smith. The linebacking corp brings back all four starters – Lenny Ruggieri, Seamus Smith, Parrella and Dowd. Mabret Levant and Schmalzle are back in the secondary. Chris Quigley and Gardsy will be the other two defensive backs.
Special teams are experienced with Roman Levant back doing the place kicking and Mabret Levant returning as the punter.
