2023 PREVIEW
It has been a rough stretch for Wyoming Valley West football, but there is optimism that the program can be turned around. The school administration went out and brought in former Spartan Bob Stelma to do the job. Valley West didn’t win a game last season so there is only one direction to go and that’s up.
The roster actually has plenty of experience so that should help in 2023. Lucas Zdancewicz returns at quarterback with Madden Sandly and Carson Brown serving as his backups. Isiah Cobb hopes to return to form at running back while Paul Riggs and Tyler Mattis will also get carries. Jake Dubaskas is the returning starter at fullback with Bronx Maldonado providing depth. Maki Wells is back at wide receiver and will be joined by Ty Makarewicz. Tajae Albritton, Hunter Hivish, Tyler Mattis, Chase Meyers, and Jonathan Otway are also on the depth chart. Kamau Ingram and Az-Zubair Sharif will see time at tight end.
The offensive line will return four starters including left guard Eliot Thomas, center Tyler Ruddy, right guard Nasir Hall and right tackle Dajuan Edwards. Cole McKenzie is projected to be the left tackle backed up by Gavin Brady. Logan Colliani, Liam Corbett, Jacoy Grant, Wil Hebda, and Dabian Madonado will provide depth up front.
Hall is a returning starter at defensive and with McKenzie, Corbett, and Hebda also getting playing time. Thomas, Edwards and Carter Isabell could see reps at defensive tackle. Cobb and Riggs are returning starters at outside linebacker with Ingram providing depth. Dubaskas is back at inside linebacker and will be paired with Sharif. Maldonado, Sandly, and Ruddy could also be in the rotation. Ty Makarewicz and Wells are both experienced and will start again in the secondary. Albritton, Mattis, Hivish, Damien Jackson, Otway, and Preston Sninsky will also vy for playing time.
Roger Staron will be the kicker and Ingram the punter.
