2022 PREVIEW

The Patriots bring back plenty of talent at the skill positions, but the question will be once again how good they can be up front. Pittston Area also moves to WVC Division 2 which will help their win total and allow them to compete for a division title.

Drew DeLucca took over at quarterback last season and put up solid numbers. Both his receivers return in Kevin Lockett and Rob Barbieri as does this starting running back Harry Pugliese. David Sudo will play tight end with Drew Menendez back at fullback. Depth will be provided by Gerry Groom and Xzayvier Blackshear at quarterback, C.J. Pieterzak at running back, John Barchi-Crich and A.J. Scialpi at fullback, and Josh Pierre, Anthony Ranieli, and A.J. Grieco at receiver

Three starters return on the offensive line including left tackle Jake Mills, left guard Nick Sciandra, and center Ryan Hintze. Jaidin Morgans is penciled in at right guard while Brody Spindler and Gunnar Zaldonis will compete for the right tackle spot.

The defensive line returns Sudo at nose tackle, but will have new starters at the defensive ends with  Zaldonis and Sciandra. Menendez is back at inside linebacker with either Scialpi or Kyle Breymier occupying the other spot. Grieco, Hintze,  Blackshear, and Pieterzak are all in competition for the two outside backer positions. Barbieri and Pugliese return at the safety spots and Lockett is back at one corner. Ciran Bilbow or Josh Pierre will be on the other side. DeLucca and Groom will provide depth in the secondary.

All three specialist return with Barbieri handling the kicking, Lockett back at punter and Greico the long snapper.

QUOTE FROM COACH BARBIERI: We return the majority of our skilled players on both sides of the ball. Our offensive and defensive lines will be improved from last season. We are talented but depth can be a problem. If we can avoid injuries and have our less experienced players develop we will be competitive. With Hazleton, Williamsport and Wyoming Valley West as our first three games, our schedule will test our depth early.
