2023 PREVIEW
After a slow start, the Cavaliers found themselves in a usual space – district champs. This year, they want to repeat that feat as well as get the division title back after falling short. There is plenty of talent and depth that should give Scranton Prep a chance to do both.
Quarterback Louis Paris ran for 857 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2022. With a year under his belt, the passing numbers should be better this season. Quinten Palermo returns at running back after a 1,000 yard season. Jamie Barrett will be his backup. Max Shnipes is returning at fullback with Reese Tanner behind him on the depth chart. Liam Barrett and Javonte Weeks return at wide receiver with Treyvon Dickey, James Pappas, and Brady Holmes providing depth. Andrew Summa will be the new tight end backed up by Jimmy Synder and Brady Rutoski.
Prep brings three starters back on the offensive line including left guard Travis Sharples, center Nyeem Gonzalez and right tackle Cameron Palermo. Nick Pasko, Byron Axtell, or Matt Lake will be the right guard while Ambrose Rossi is the front runner for the left tackle spot.
Rossi and Palermo are expected to be the new defensive ends while Shnipes and Sharples are returning starters at defensive tackle. Gonzalez will provide depth in the defensive interior. Aidan Britton and Tanner return at inside linebacker while Summa played the outside backer last season. Jamie Barrett will provide depth. Weeks and Liam Barrett are back at cornerback. Dickey, Pappas and Holmes could also see time. Jack Doughton, Bo Reilly, Will McParkland, and Shawn Rowell are candidates to play the safety positions.
Jack Hartshorn and Jimmy Snyder will be involved in special teams.
