Berwick had one of best defenses over the second half of the decade and Eric Montes was a major reason why. The three-year starter at defensive end and team captain as a senior recorded 85 tackles in 2019. He also had 12 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and an interception. For his career, Montes recorded 183 tackles, 32 tackles for loss and 20 sacks. He also played fullback his senior season and scored two touchdowns. The Bulldogs won 28 games in the three years Montes was a starter.

Montes was named an NPF Wyoming Valley Conference Big School first-team defensive lineman in both 2018 and 2019. He was also named an NPF All-District 2 defensive lineman in 2019. Montes was named an all-state defensive lineman by the Pennsylvania Football Writers and a first-team all-state defensive end by the Pennsylvania Football News his senior season. He was also named a first-team defensive lineman by EasternPaFootball.com in 2019. Montes will continue his football career at Division 1 FCS Delaware State University.
