After starting his playing career at Central Columbia, Dain Kowalski came over to Berwick and had a huge impact. His senior season, he led the Dawgs in tackles and interceptions as Berwick had an undefeated regular season, won the District 2 Class AAA title and reached the state semifinals. Kowalski was a shutdown cornerback on a defense that allowed less than two touchdowns in 10 of their 14 wins. He also was a major contributor on offense as he rushed for 1,008 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. He was a weapon special teams returning kicks.

Kowalski was a 2013 NPF Wyoming Valley Conference Big School first-team defensive back and second-team running back. He was also Wyoming Valley Conference Big School Defense Player of the Year and an NPF All-District 2 defensive back. Kowalski was also named a second-team all-state defensive back by the Pennsylvania Football News and honorable mention defensive back by EasternPAFootball.com in 2013. He played in the PSFCA East-West game in 2014.
