The Wallenpaupack coaching staff knew early they had something special in Rashawn Battle. Eventually many college recruiters knew the same. Battle was a standout linebacker for the Buckhorns with 104 career tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble. On offense, he rushed for 1,608 yards and scored 2 touchdowns for his career.
Battle was an NPF 2015 Lackawanna Football Conference Division I first-team linebacker and first-team running back. He was also named an NPF All-District 2 linebacker. Battle was named an honorable mention all-state linebacker by the Pennsylvania Football News and honorable mention linebacker by EasternPaFootball.com in 2015. He was named a top 20 recruit in Pennsylvania by Rivals and ESPN. Battle continued his football career at Division I-FBS Rutgers University where he has played 26 games to date at linebacker and has made 62 tackles and recorded 3 sacks.
Wallenpaupack coach Mark Watson on Battle: “Rashawn was a very gifted high school football player, being the most highly recruited Buckhorn ever at Wallenpaupack, pursued by over 20 division 1 schools. My best memory was when Rutgers landed a helicopter, on two different occasions, on our football field during the school day. Of course, like all coaches, we probably should have used him much more than we did with everything he was capable of doing on the field.”
