2026 PREVIEW
Montrose returns to the Lackawanna Football Conference with a new face leading the way. Brett Stage, who previously served as an assistant at successful programs at Scranton Prep and Lackawanna Trail, is excited to return to the division and showcase a young group of players that enjoyed some success last season.
Evan Strohl takes over at quarterback, while Sawyer Aukema moves to running back and will share carries with Liam McNamee. Wyatt Smith takes over at fullback. Evan McComb, Tim David, and Weston Nabywaniec bring experience at wide receiver, with David Carter providing depth. Lincoln Hobbs and Hudson Hawk are the new tight ends.
The offensive line should be a strength for the Meteors, with four starters returning: left tackle Bryden Heaton, left guard Ethan Smith, center Julian Repchick, and right tackle Christian Baker. Keith Gregory steps into the right guard position.
Montrose will install a new defensive scheme but returns plenty of experience. Heaton, Smith, Repchick, and Baker all saw playing time along the defensive line last season, while Jacob Susz, Corey Anderson, and Hobbs will also compete for snaps.
Aukema and David return at linebacker, with Gregory, Smith, and Hawk expected to be in the mix. McNamee and Nabywaniec are back at cornerback, with Carter providing depth at the position. McComb returns as the starting safety.
Aukema returns to handle the punting duties, while the remaining special teams positions will be determined at a later date.
QUOTE FROM COACH STAGE: We have a solid group of kids with a lot of varsity experience. The kids have really adjusted to the new coaching staff and picked everything up fast. As long as we can stay healthy we should be a solid contender in the division.
