Here are the Super Six Power rankings powered by Gaughan Auto Store. All teams in the WVC and LFC are eligible for the rankings. Big School rankings consist of teams from Class 6A, 5A and 4A schools. Small School rankings consist of teams from Class 3A, 2A and 1A schools. Check back as we count up to No. 1 for the preseason.
BIG SCHOOL
1. Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack
The Wolfpack enter 2025 with one of most potent offenses in recent memory. They return all of their skill players and three offensive linemen. They also have depth at the skill positions. Quarterback Jake Howe is a four-year starter and the speed around him is off the charts. The defense will end up being the key as it was average last season. There are some key returning starters coming back on that unit, but the defense as a whole will have to step up in order to be a complete team. There is also the pressure on Wilkes-Barre to have success. They have been able to showcase some talent since the merger of Coughlin, GAR, and Meyers. But it has been harder to finish some games and be a dominant team. This could be the year.

2. Delaware Valley Warriors
Delaware Valley is coming off a roller coaster season that saw them not have a winning season since 2009. They also saw their streak of eight consecutive years winning a district title stopped. This didn’t sit well with the Warriors. DV has plenty of skill players coming back and will be a favorite in the division and district this season. They also bring back enough linemen to do something they are used to and that’s dominate up front. Mike Iuzzolino is the second leading returning rusher in District 2 and freshman sensation Trey Newton is back for his second season. The Warriors will have to find a new quarterback, but they usually have someone on the roster ready to take over. The schedule is once again tough early and they will always have a target on them in LFC Division II.

3. North Pocono Trojans
What was most evident last season is North Pocono was competitive with the best teams in the division. It didn’t necessarily show up in the win column. But now they think they can take the next step and beat those teams in 2025. The Trojans have the most firepower back in the division and a big offensive line that puts them in line to compete for the division and district titles. With 15 starters returning, the players took some lumps the past couple seasons, but now have experience which they will need to compete with the LFC heavyweights. North Pocono has their eye on the prize and will try to win their first district title since 2016.

4. Valley View Cougars
Valley View graduated 29 seniors. Yes, you read that right. And lot of those players were key contributors to the Cougars’ Class 4A district title last season. But don’t feel too bad for them. The talent is there . It’s the inexperience that could limit their success, at least early in the season. The offensive and defensive lines should be the strength. The defense overall should be pretty good. The offense will need to replace almost all the production from 2024, to keep an eye on that factor. Just keep in mind if you take out the COVID season, Valley View has double-digit wins every season since 2016. They will be a darkhorse in the division, but a major contender to defend their district crown.

5. Dallas Mountaineers
The Mountaineers have won back-to-back WVC Division 1 titles and been to the Class 4A title game the past two seasons with one championship on their resume. That’s just the standard for the Dallas football program. And they will be in contention for both again this year. The big question mark is the backfield as they lost two of the most productive offensive players in school history. Whoever takes over at quarterback will be the key as a four-year starter has departed However, the offensive line has experience for the first time in several seasons and that should be a strength right from Week 1. The defense should be improved from last season, but special teams need a reboot after getting hit hard by graduation. In the end, the Mounts will be one of the teams that will be successful this season.

6. Crestwood Comets
The Comets were derailed by injuries last season and even though they did qualify for the district playoffs, they posted a losing record. The biggest injury was to quarterback Jaden Shedlock, who is back and healthy for his senior season. Shedlock, when healthy, is one of the best playmakers in the WVC and there is a solid supporting cast around him. The biggest question is up front where Crestwood will have to replace some all-league linemen. If they can find players in the trenches that are suitable replacements, they can make some noise in the division and get back to the district playoffs. The first two weeks will tell a lot as they play perennial powers Wyoming Area and Valley View.

SMALL SCHOOL
1. Scranton Prep
The Cavaliers continue to be one of the dominant programs in District 2. They have won four straight Class 3A titles and are the defending LFC Division I champion. However, there are more question marks entering 2025 than the past several seasons. Scranton Prep needs to replace most of their offensive production and also three starting offensive linemen. The lone returning skill player who made an impact last year, Will McPartland, is coming off a knee injury so it is not known when the will make his debut this season. But Prep continues to roll through the region. They only have one loss to a District 2 teams over the past two seasons. The expectations are high every year, but until the Cavs don’t live up to them, they will be the top dog of the Small Schools

2. Wyoming Area Warriors
Wyoming Area is the two-time defending WVC Division 2 champions and made the Class 3A district title game last season. The Warriors are the favorites in the division again and will be a contender for the district championship again this season. Expect them to keep the formula the same despite having to replace some good players that graduated. The holes they have to fill on the line will be a focus and if that happens quickly, they will again win the battle in the trenches on a weekly basis. There is little doubt they have skill players that are playmakers, but they will have to find a new quarterback to manage the offense. Expect another winning season for Wyoming Area, but they will have more challenges in the division in 2025.

3. Lackawanna Trail Lions
Trail is the defending Class 1A district and subregional champions plus LFC Division III champions and they are on track to repeat both in 2025. A strong offensive line, experienced backfield and a winning culture should keep the Lions churning out victories and put them on the state map in their classification. Like any small school, their depth will be important, but they feel they have young players ready to contribute now. Lackawanna Trail will be challenged with their schedule, but another state run is highly probable if everything goes as planned.

4. Berwick Bulldogs
Are the Dawgs back? It looked like it from the way they they played the second half of the season including a playoff loss on the road where they shut out Western Wayne until the fourth quarter. And once Berwick figured out their offense midseason and got the ball to Ty’Meere Wilkerson, they were setting school records. Wilkerson is back and an offensive line that led the way returns a bunch of really good playesr. Things are looking up at Crispin Field. There are still some holes to fill like everyone else, but the Bulldogs should challenge champion Wyoming Area in WVC Division 1. The first half of the schedule is challenging so a fast start will tell us if they are ready to make their mark in 2025.

5. Mid Valley Spartans
The Spartans won their first division title since 1991 and although there were some key pieces lost to graduation, Mid Valley has a chance to repeat in LFC Division II. The offense should be good with quarterback Brett Yanoski returns and Mason Vinansky is now the No. 1 running back on the depth chart after putting up good numbers as a backup. The line has key players returning and their defensive front should be one of the better ones in the LFC. They have to replace some key players in the linebacking corp and secondary, but if those holes are filled, they will be a team reckon with on Friday nights. The Mid Valley program is trending upwards.

6. Dunmore Bucks
After getting hit hard by graduation in 2023, the Bucks struggled for a bit in 2024. However, the improvement was noticeable and culminated with a district playoff win before falling in the title game. Dunmore returns their entire starting offensive line and although some skill positions to need filled, that issue was helped with the transfer of Weston Yannone from Susquehanna. Xavier Burke was a division all-star on both sides of the ball last season and will be one of the best linebackers in the LFC and leader of the Bucks defense. There is optimism that Dunmore is a contender for division and district titles in 2025.
