Every week, we will highlight some of the best special teams performances from the WVC and LFC presented by Northeast Industries. Here is Week 2:
SAWYER AUKEMA, Montrose
Aukema is only a freshman but made a huge impact on the Battle For The Bluestone game this past Saturday. He had a 72-yard punt and five punts total that averaged 41 yards per kick. He also recorded a sack on a two-point conversion attempt, ran for a two-point conversion, had a tackle on a kickoff and finally had a kickoff return for 12 yards in the Meteors win.
RYAN MECCA, Dunmore
Everyone knew Mecca was going to be an important part of the offense and that showed up last Friday with two long rushing touchdowns. But the Bucks also expect him to be an electric special teams player and that happened as well with a 39-yard punt return for a touchdown to help Dunmore to an easy win.
KAMANI STERLING, Scranton
Sterling is emerging as a playmaker for the Knights and his 58-yd return of a free kick for a touchdown exemplified that notion. There wasn’t much room originally, but he cut back twice and made tacklers miss and the speed took over the last 30 yards to score and help Scranton to their first victory of the year.
