Here are the rankings after Week 9 powered by Gaughan Auto Store:
BIG SCHOOL
- Valley View Cougars (8-1), defeated Wyoming Valley West 35-10 (Last week: 1)
The Cougars clinched the Class 4A No. 1 seed with their win on Friday that extended their winning streak to eight. The road to the title goes through Peckville for the first time in three years. All about staying healthy this week.
Next up: at Wallenpaupack (4-5) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Delaware Valley Warriors (4-5), defetaed North Pocono 38-26 (Last week: 2)
It was a little shaky, but Delaware Valley eventually took over in the second half last week for another win. Their offense has been great, but there are some questions about the defense, especially the secondary. The Warriors also fell to the No. 2 seed in Class 5A, but that could change again this weekend.
Next up: vs. Scranton (4-5) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Abington Heights Comets (5-4), defeated Scranton 48-21 (Last week: 3)
The Comets moved into the No. 1 seed in Class 5A, but like we said above, that could change this weekend. Abington’s passing game is clicking on all cylinders with QB Nick Bradley responsible for nine touchdowns over the last two games.
Next up: vs. Hazleton (5-4) – Friday - Dallas Mountaineers (6-3), defeated Hazleton 48-12 (Last week: 4)
The Mountaineers scored 42 points in the second quarter with three of those touchdowns coming on special teams and defense to win their second straight WVC Division 1 title. Dallas is playing as good as anyone right now with six straight wins and might have the best offense in the WVC,
Next up: at Lake-Lehman (6-3) – Friday - Honesdale Hornets (5-4), defeated Dunmore 49-20 (Last week: NR)
Honesdale jumps back into the rankings after their first win against Dunmore since 1997. The Hornets got a special teams and defensive touchdown to help secure the win. A win this Friday should put them in the Class 4A playoffs.
Next up: vs. West Scranton (0-9) – Friday - Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack (5-4), defeated Crestwood 21-14 (Last week: NR)
The Wolfpack also jump back into the rankings. With the win last Friday, they move back into the No. 1 seed in Class 6A. A win this week should keep them there and they will get a chance to defend their title on home turf.
Next up: at Williamsport (4-5) – Friday
SMALL SCHOOL
- Scranton Prep Cavaliers (8-1), defeated Jersey Shore 25-18b(Last week: 1)
Prep got the job done leaving the district and earning a hard-fought win. Now, they will come back the division to try to clinch an outright title. The Cavaliers also got a break with Western Wayne losing and that puts them on top of the Class 3A standings.
Next up: at North Pocono (4-5) – Friday - Wyoming Area Warriors (8-1), defeated Nanticoke 50-0 (Last week: 3)
The Warriors are cruising to wins with some inferior opponets, but the most important thing is getting everyone healthy for the the playoffs. No doubt Wyoming Area is a contender in Class 3A
Next up: at Pittston Area (2-7) (Watch on NPF) – Friday - Lackawanna Trail Lions (8-1), defeated Holy Cross 56-13 (Last week: 4)
Trail dominated this weekend and now the showdown we have all been waiting for. It won’t affect the Class 1A subregional seeding as they will be No. 1. But this is a chance to win back-to-back league titles.
Next up: vs. Riverside (9-0) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Riverside Vikings (9-0), defeated Old Forge 28-6 (Last week: 5)
Riverside has taken care of business even though their have been some obstacles through the first nine games. They are the last District 2 unbeaten and want to keep it that way by claiming a division title.
Next up: at Lackawanna Trail (8-1) (Listen on NPF)- Friday - Western Wayne Wildcats (8-1), lost to Mid Valley 22-10 (Last week: 2)
The Wildcats were shocked at home last Friday for their first loss of the season. It might have been just one of those game, but it could haunt them as they fell back to the No. 2 seed in Class 3A.
Next up: at Dunmore (4-5) (Listen on NPF) – Thursday - Mid Valley (6-3), defeated Western Wayne 22-10 (Last week: NR)
After suffering a bad loss a couple weeks back, the Spartans get their biggest win in many years. That should give them some momentum and confidence as they should get a home game in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Next up: vs. Lakeland (3-6) – Friday
