Here are the rankings after Week 7 powered by Gaughan Auto Store:
BIG SCHOOL
- Valley View Cougars (6-1), defeated North Pocono 21-14 (Last week: 1)
The Cougars are finding ways to win games and have now won six straight. However, this week will be a biggest test since Week 1 on Friday. Valley View can basically wrap up the No. 1 seed in Class 4A with a victory at home.
Next up: vs. Delaware Valley (3-4) (Watch on NPF) – Friday - Delaware Valley Warriors (3-4), defeated Lutheran (NY) 40-32 (Last week: 2)
Warriors continued their brutal schedule, but this time it paid off with a big road win. The gauntlet will continue this Friday against another quality LFC I team. Delaware Valley has found their run game and right now, they are just beating people up front and winning games.
Next up: at Valley View (4-0) (Watch on NPF) – Friday - Abington Heights Comets (3-4), lost to Scranton Prep 27-21 (Last week: 3)
Another tough loss for the Comets and although there are no moral victories, they have earned the respect of their division foes with three one-score losses against the division elite. They will be the favorite the next three weeks with a chance to line up at least the No. 2 seed in Class 5A with at least one home game in the postseason.
Next up: vs. Wallenpaupack (3-4) (Listen on NPF) – Thursday - Dallas Mountaineers (4-3), defeated Wyoming Valley West 35-6 (Last week: 4)
Four-in-a-row for the Mountaineers and now they probably are paying for the division this week. They also have three weeks to lock up a home game in the Class 4A playoffs and they are a favorite to get a chance to defend their title.
Next up: at Crestwood (4-3) – Friday - Scranton Knights (5-2), defeated Wallenpaupack 31-7 (Last week: 5)
Scranton broke their two-game losing streak and played more like the first half of the season. They are also in line for a No. 1 seed in Class 6A, but they still have work to do.
Next up: at North Pocono (3-4) – Friday - Crestwood Comets (4-3), defeated Hazleton Area 28-2 (Last week: NR)
Comets have won three straight without Jaden Shedlock so credit to the coaches and players for not packing it when their start QB went down. They now have a chance to win a division title and slide into the No. 2 spot in Class 4A if they can get a win at home on Friday.
Next up: vs. Dallas (4-3) – Friday
SMALL SCHOOL
- Scranton Prep Cavaliers (6-1), defeated Abington Heights 27-21 (Last week: 1)
Prep escaped with a win last Friday and clinched at least a tie for the division title. The Cavaliers started the season strong, but have shown some issues during their current winning streak. They are still the No. 2 seed in Class 3A and still have some challenges on their schedule so every game is important down the stretch.
Next up: vs. Mid Valley (5-2) – Friday - Western Wayne Wildcats (7-0), defeated West Scranton 42-16(Last week: 2)
Western Wayne has been the most dominant team in District 2 with only one serious challenge to date. They are in the driver’s seat for the division and for the No. 1 seed for Class 3A.
Next up: vs. Lakeland (2-5) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Wyoming Area Warriors (6-1), defeated Hanover Area 55-7 (Last week: 3)
The Warriors probably will face their biggest division challenge this Friday and if they can get past that, they should be on cruise control for the end of the season. There is little doubt they can win Class 3A, but they aren’t the favorite so they must keep playing at a high level to achieve their goals.
Next up: vs. Lake-Lehman (5-2) (Watch on NPF) – Friday - Lackawanna Trail Lions (6-1), defeated Carbondale (Last week: 4)
Trail has won five straight and is on a collision course with Riverside for a Week 10 showdown. However, Susquehanna has thrown a monkey wrench into the works with their surprising season. The Lions can’t look to far ahead at this point.
Next up: vs. Susquehanna (5-2) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Riverside Vikings (7-0), defeated Holy Cross 62-20 (Last week: 5)
Riverside has been up and down during their unbeaten streak. However, they were very efficient on Saturday and that’s what they will need to be down the stretch. They also have to avoid looking ahead to rival Old Forge and defending division champs Lackawanna Trai.
Next up: vs. Carbondale (4-3) – Friday - Susquehanna Sabers (5-2), defeated Old Forge 42-27 (Last week: NR)
The Sabers make their debut in the Super Six rankings as they continue on their run during a historical season with wins over Dunmore, Lakeland and now Old Forge. A win this week would solidify this version of Susquehanna as one of the best in school history.
