BIG SCHOOL
- Scranton Knights (2-0), defeated Wyoming Valley West 36-13 (Last week: 3)
The Knights took care of business the first two weeks and are getting warmed up for the LFC Division 1 part of the schedule which is still several weeks away. Brody Coyle gives them good combo quarterback play. They will be favored the next couple weeks and hope to have plenty of momentum heading into the meat of their schedule.
Next up: vs. Pocono Mountain East (0-2) (Listen on NPF) – Thursday - Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack (1-1), lost to Stroudsburg 35-20 (Last week: 1)
The Wolfpack played a tough road game that was one score throughout, but didn’t have enough to get over the hump. They did lose quarterback Jake Howe in the third quarter so his status is up in the air. Wilkes-Barre still has enough weapons to be good offensively so expect them to still be able to score points.
Next up: vs. Valley View (1-1) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Delaware Valley Warriors (0-2), lost to Jersey Shore 14-10 (Last week: 4)
Yes, the Warriors are 0-2. Yes, they are inexperienced. But they went on the road and gave District 4 power Jersey Shore everything they could handle. The DV defense looks ready, but the offense is still progressing. Won’t get any easier this week.
Next up: at Jersey Shore Next up: vs. Central York (1-1) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Dallas Mountaineers (0-2), lost to Wyoming Area 49-41 (Last week: 2)
Strength of schedule is why the Mounts are 0-2. They have one score losses to two very good teams. Brady Zapoticky threw for over 400 yards last week in the loss and Dallas is still having some trouble running the ball. And they have another big test this week against a quality LFC opponent.
Next up: vs. Abington Heights (1-1) – Friday - North Pocono Trojans (2-0), defeated Pittston Area 23-13 (Last week: 6)
North Pocono struggled to pull away last week, but found a way to get a victory. They are in the same boat as Scranton, trying to get ready for a brutal LFC Division 1 schedule. The Trojans seem to have a very good running game behind an experiened and big offensive line.
Next up: at Wyoming Valley West (0-2) – Friday - Honesdale Hornets (2-0), defeated Pocono Mountain East 43-20 (Last week: NR)
Hornets are 2-0 for the first time since 2005 and have a plethora of offensive weapons. This will be their biggest test yet with a rival who has had their number over the past several seasons. Honesdale is showing they are legit for making it to the playoffs this season.
Next up: vs. Wallenpaupack (1-1) – Friday
SMALL SCHOOL
- Scranton Prep Cavaliers (2-0), defeated Loyola Blakesfield (MD) 26-23 (Last week: 1)
The Cavaliers played a tough out of state opponent and came out on top to give PA a nice victory over Maryland. Prep looks like they are ready to roll in the LFC, but first they will take on another Jesuit school, this time from New York.
Next up: vs. Canisius (NY) (0-0) – Saturday - Wyoming Area Warriors (2-0), defeated Dallas 49-41 (Last week: 2) Might be the Game of the Year when all is said and done. The Warriors’ Lidge Kellum ran all over Dallas, but there are some worries about the pass defense that gave up over 400 yards. Doesn’t get any easier as they will play a ranked team for the third straight week.
Next up: at Western Wayne (2-0) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Western Wayne Wildcats (2-0), defeated Lackawanna Trail 28-7 (Last week: 3)
Statement win for the Western Wayne program and now they will have another huge challenge this week. The defensive line is going to have to handle a very good running game on Friday. The offensive combo of Josh Vinton and Sean Owens is going to be hard for anyone to deal with.
Next up: vs. Wyoming Area (2-0) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Mid Valley Spartans (2-0), defeated Berwick 28-7 (Last week: 5)
Mid Valley will have their biggest test so far this season on Friday. They took care of their WVC foes in the first two weeks, but they will face a legit good offense on the road in Week 3. Gonna be hard for anyone to stop Jakob Lesher so the offense is in good hands.
Next up: at Old Forge (2-0) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Lackawanna Trail Lions (1-1), lost to Western Wayne 28-7 (Last week: 4)
The Lions had trouble putting the ball in the end zone last Friday and it was because they faced a run defense they could’t really solve. These kind of games will help Trail on their path as they should be able to get back on track in their home opener ta Tunnel Hill.
Next up: vs. Berwick (0-2) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Riverside Vikings (2-0), defeated Hanover Area 62-13 (Last week: 6)
The Vikings cruised past a lesser opponent in Week 2, but now will be tested on the road against an unbeaten rival. If Riverside can get a win this week, it will be smooth sailing until the last two weeks of the season when they play the best other two teams in division.
