BIG SCHOOL
- Valley View Cougars (11-1), defeated Dallas 41-14 (Last week: 1)
The Cougars flexed their muscle on Friday to win their first district title since 2021 and avenged the loss to Dallas in last year’s championship game. Valley View once again wore down an opponent and now will enter the state tournament on an 11-game winning streak. There have been doubters out there because the Cougars win ugly. But nobody is giving out style points.
Next up: vs. Pope John Paul II (11-1) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Abington Heights Comets (8-4), defeated Delaware Valley 20-14 (Last week: 3)
The Comets won their first district title since 2016 and avenged two title game losses the last two seasons to DV as well as a loss earlier this regular season. Abington showed resolve when starting quarterback Nick Bradley went down, and found a way to win. It has been a magical season for the Comets.
Next up: vs. Hollidaysburg (11-1) – Friday - Delaware Valley Warriors (6-6), lost to Abington Heights 20-14 (Last week: 2)
A tough way to end a roller coaster season. The defense for the Warriors was never as good in 2024 as we are used to and although DV ends the season with a non-winning record, we will call it a hiccup and expect them to back a contender again next season.
Next up: Season Complete - Dallas Mountaineers (8-4), lost to Valley View 41-14 (Last week: 4)
An 8-game winning streak ended on Friday, but you have to give the Mounts credit. They could have given up when they started the season 0-3. They were undersized all season and that finally caught up with them in the title game. But it was still a successful season for Dallas with another WVC Division 1 title.
Next up: Season Complete - Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack (6-6), lost to Williamsport 14-0 (Last week: 5)
The offense disappeared throughout the season and again last Friday night. Wilkes-Barre was awarded another District 2 Class 6A title, but it still was a disappointing season considering the expectations coming in. Just too many inconsistencies week-to-week.

SMALL SCHOOL
- Scranton Prep Cavaliers (11-1), defeated Mid Valley 40-21 (Last week: 1)
Here we go again. The Cavaliers swat away another challenger in the postseason. They made it look easy on Friday and everyone expects them to win another district title. However, the last time they didn’t win the district was in 2019 and the team that was in their way that year will be in Dunmore on Friday night trying to knock them from their perch.
Next up: vs. Wyoming Area (11-1) (Watch on NPF) – Friday - Wyoming Area Warriors (11-1), defeated Western Wayne 35-34 (2 OT) (Last week: 2)
What a game and what a win for Wyoming Area last Friday. They avenged their only loss of the season and now get a shot at the title. They haven’t won that championship since 2019 and know it will be a tall task. Expect the effort to be there and expect the Warriors to leave it all on the field.
Next up: at Scranton Prep (11-1) (Watch on NPF) – Friday - Lackawanna Trail Lions (11-1), defeated Tri-Valley 42-0 (Last week: 3)
The Lions are making it look easy now as they win another Subregional title and head to the first round of the state playoffs a favorite in the eastern side of the Class 1A bracket. Trail is playing their best football now and are very physical. That will serve them well if they ever play in a close game the rest of the season.
Next up: vs. Muncy (10-2) (Listen on NPF) – Friday - Western Wayne Wildcats (10-2), lost to Wyoming Area 35-34 (2 OT) (Last week: 4)
Heartbreak. That’s the only word to describe what the Wildcats felt on Friday. In one of the best games of the 2024 season, Western Wayne came up a yard short of advancing to the Class 3A title game. It was still a magnificient season for a very good Wildcat team.
Next up: Season Complete - Riverside Vikings (11-1), defeated Dunmore 24-6 (Last week: 6)
The Vikings finally get that title. After coming up short last season and coming in second in the division in 2024, Riverside beats the defending champion Bucks and now can try to go on their own state run in Class 2A.
Next up: vs. Lansdale Catholic (8-4) – Friday - Mid Valley Spartans (8-4), lost to Scranton Prep 40-21 (Last week: 5)
Spartans should keep their heads high as they had a great year and were competitive all season long. Class 3A was a tall task this season, but Mid Valley showed up to play every week. Definitely something for the program to build on.
