BIG SCHOOL

  1. Valley View Cougars (9-1), defeated Wallenpaupack 34-13 (Last week: 1)
    The Cougars have been on a mission this season after losing the last two district championship games on the road. Now, the Class 4A title goes through Peckville. With the exception of the Covid season, Valley View has been in every title game since 2017.
    Next up: vs. Crestwood (5-5) (Watch on NPF)  – Friday
  2. Delaware Valley Warriors (5-5), defeated Scranton 45-7 (Last week: 2)
    It hasn’t been a typical Delaware Valley season after they were hit hard by graduation from last year’s team. Yet, here they are again with a chance to defend their district title. The Warriors are definitely capable of winning another championship in District 2.
    Next up: vs. Pittston Area (2-8) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  3. Abington Heights Comets (6-4), defeated Hazleton Area 27-0 (Last week: 3)
    Abington earned home field in the playoffs and will host the first-ever night playoff game in school history. Revenge comes to mind as they expect another game with Delaware Valley. They have lost to the Warriors the last two title games and lost a close game in the last :16 seconds in the 2024 regular season.
    Next up: vs. Wyoming Valley West (0-10) – Friday
  4. Dallas Mountaineers (7-3), defeated Lake-Lehman 28-7 (Last week: 4)
    Seven wins in-a-row for the Moutaineers as they will have a chance to defend their district title. The offense has been explosive all season long and the defense has improved throughout the year. Dallas is eyeing back-to-back titles.
    Next up: vs. Honesdale (6-4) – Friday
  5. Honesdale Hornets (6-4), defeated West Scranton 34-20 (Last week: NR)
    The Hornets clinched a district playoff spot with their Week 10 win and now will have a chance to make a statement if they can go on the road and beat the defending champs. Honesdale is another team who has displayed offensive fireworks for most of the season. They also have scored on special teams. If the defense can hold up, they could be a sleeper.
    Next up: at Dallas (7-3) – Friday
  6. Wilkes-Barre Wolfpack (5-5), lost to Williamsport 34-20 (Last week: 6)
    Wilkes-Barre gave up 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter Week 10 to lose to Williamsport but still managed to get the No. 1 seed in Class 6 A. The Wolfpack have been on a roller coaster ride all season looking like true contenders one week and non-factors another.

SMALL SCHOOL

  1. Scranton Prep Cavaliers (9-1), defeated North Pocono 21-7 (Last week: 1)
    Lots of challengers to Prep’s throne in 2024, but the Cavaliers remain the team to beat. Home field advantage for all three rounds, the defending champs are hoping the tough out-of-conference schedule will pay dividends in the postseason.
    Next up: vs. Tunkhannock (3-7) – Friday
  2. Wyoming Area Warriors (9-1), defeated Pittston Area 28-0 (Last week: 2)
    Wyoming Area finishes the season as the WVC Division 2 champions for the second straight season and are on a seven-game winning streak. Now, they will have to probably win two games on the road to earn their first district title since 2019.
    Next up: vs. Carbondale Area  (6-4) (Watch on NPF) – Friday
  3. Lackawanna Trail Lions (9-1), defeated Riverside 42-20  (Last week: 3)
    The Lions are kings again in LFC Division III. An impressive win propels them to the postseason with aspirations beyond a subregional championship. They also are District 2 champions for the second straight season since neither Old Forge or Holy Cross qualified for the tournament.
    Next up: vs. Nativity (6-4) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  4. Western Wayne Wildcats (9-1), defeated Dunmore 42-7 (Last week: 5)
    A nice bounce back for the ‘Cats after suffering their first loss of the season. They get a share of LFC Division II and now head into the Class 3A tournament as a serious contender. Western Wayne is built for the playoffs.
    Next up: vs. Berwick (4-6) (Listen on NPF) – Friday
  5. Mid Valley Spartans (7-3), defeated Lakeland 34-7  (Last week: 6)
    The Spartans win their first division title since 1991 and will get a home game in the Class 3A quarterfinals. The bad news for Mid Valley is they are not going to sneak up on anyone. The win over Western Wayne moved them from sleeper to contender.
    Next up: vs. Lake-Lehman (6-4) – Friday
  6. Riverside Vikings (9-1), lost to Lackawanna Trail 42-20 (Last week: 4)
    It was a disappointing end to a successful regular season for the Vikings. Injuries didn’t help last week, but Riverside still has a district title on their radar and are still the favorite to win it.
    Next up: vs. Lakeland (3-7) – Friday
