BIG SCHOOL
- Valley View Cougars (11-2), lost to Pope John Paul II 36-0 (Preseason: 4)
Valley View had no answers for the speed of PJP, but it was the offense that missed opportunities that they had capitalized on all season. It was still a great season for the Cougars who had 30 seniors who had been involved in two district title game losses only to go out as the 2024 Class 4A champs. If there is any doubt about Valley View being No. 1, they beat every team that ended up on the final Super Six.
Next up: Season Complete - Abington Heights Comets (8-5), lost to Hollidaysburg 24-23 (Preseason: 6)
The Comets won their first district title since 2016 and came a blocked extra point away from having a chance to advance in the state tournament. It was a gritty effort with QB Nick Bradley on the sidelines. Abington Heights played their best football against their best opponents with four losses coming by one score. No doubt the senior offensive line made their mark in 2024 and the Comets’ program should have some momentum heading into 2025.

SMALL SCHOOL
- Scranton Prep Cavaliers (12-1), defeated Wyoming Area 28-6 (Preseason: 1)
District champs for the third straight year, this Cavaliers team had some battles but have been unbeaten against teams from the Keystone State. They will now get a chance to advance in the state tournament against the team that knocked them out last season. The formula has been simple for Prep with a power running game and a swarming defense.
Next up: vs. Northwestern Lehigh (13-0) – Friday - Wyoming Area Warriors (11-2), lost to Scranton Prep 28-6 (Preseason: 2)
The Warriors played hard but came up short trying to win their first title since 2019. They are still WVC Division 2 champs and one of the premier programs in District 2. But they thought they could grab the gold with a very good senior class.
Next up: Season Complete - Lackawanna Trail Lions (11-2), lost to Muncy 47-46 (Preseason: 4)
It was a heartbreaking loss for the Lions who looked like they had done enough to win last week only to have a two-point conversion end their season. Although the season was a success, it has to be disappointing for Trail as a state title game appearance was something that was definitely within their grasp. Nonetheless, the Lions were division and district champs and will be good again next season with key players returning.
Next up: Season Complete - Riverside Vikings (12-1), defeated Lansdale Catholic 17-7 (Preseason: 5)
It’s the Vikings defense that stood strong last Friday night and put them in the state quarterfinals. They are one of two District 2 teams left standing and have a good chance to advance to the state semifinals. Riverside has won ugly at times, but nobody is handing out style points. Have a good chance to win this Friday.
