WALLENPAUPACK 35, SCRANTON 7
At Valor Field at Scranton Memorial Stadium, Wallenpaupack buried the Knights behind a virtuoso performance by tailback Ed Kiesendahl. The junior standout tallied four times for the Buckhorns, who improved to 3-4 on the season. The loss was Scranton’s third in a row, dropping the Knights to 2-5.
The Buckhorns were able to get on the scoreboard on their very first drive, controlling the line of scrimmage and moving the football on the ground. For the only time all evening, it was not Kiesendahl, but fullback Logan Caruso who scored for the Buckhorns, rampaging 15 yards through the middle of the Scranton line. With 9:10 remaining in the opening stanza, Wallenpaupack led 7-0.
Later in the first quarter, Kiesendahl struck paydirt for the first time, scooting in from four yards out. With 2:24 left to play, the Buckhorns had stretched their lead to two scores, 14-0, a lead they would never relinquish.
Scranton managed to find the end zone midway through the second period for the only time in the football game. Connor Thomas, subbing for the injured Brody Coyle, hit receiving Ben Campbell with a 12-yard strike. Merci Dieu added the point after and the Knights had life at 14-7. That was the score at intermission.
Once again, the Buckhorns controlled the football throughout the third quarter, and Kiesendahl capped an impressive drive by Wallenpaupack when he crashed into the end zone from 6 yards away. The scoreboard read 21-7 Buckhorns with 5:58 remaining in the third frame.
Kiesendahl saved his longest run of the evening for the beginning of the final period. The junior broke a tackle and then barreled 48 yards for the score. Kiesendahl would add another 2-yard touchdown run with just over 4 minutes left in the contest to make the final score 35-7.
Wallenpaupack will host Abington Heights next Friday evening while Scranton will host undefeated North Pocono.
