TUNKHANNOCK 34, TOWANDA 27

Tunkhannock held off a late rally by Towanda on Friday night to earn a hard-fought 34–27 road victory in a non-conference matchup that featured big plays and momentum swings on both sides.

The Tigers built an early lead behind an efficient passing attack, as quarterback Zach Latwinski connected with Andrew Lupinski on a 47-yard touchdown to help Tunkhannock jump ahead 14–0 in the second quarter. Towanda answered when Reese Sluyter powered into the end zone from six yards out, trimming the margin to 14–7, but the Tigers added another score before halftime to take a 21–7 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, Lucas Ciprich extended Tunkhannock’s advantage with an 8-yard touchdown run, and later added a 3-yard score early in the fourth. The Tigers’ offense kept the pressure on, converting a two-point attempt to stretch the lead to 34–14.

Towanda mounted a determined comeback down the stretch. Sluyter found the end zone again on a short run, and Curtis Maynard followed with a 3-yard touchdown to pull the Black Knights within a score. However, Tunkhannock’s defense stiffened in the final minutes to secure the win.

The victory lifted Tunkhannock to 4–5 on the season, while Towanda fell to 2–7. The Tigers will look to build on the momentum next week as the regular season winds down.
