Rykin Hobart, the most recent recipient, was presented the 2024 Thomas E. Robinson Memorial Award by Robinson’s granddaughter, Bridgette McCauley.

The Thomas E. Robinson Memorial Award will be presented Saturday to the player in the Montrose-Susquehanna game who best combines outstanding play with showing respect for opponents and officials.

For the second straight year, the game is being played on Robinson’s birthday. He would have been 91 Saturday.

The award was created following his death in 2015 to acknowledge Robinson’s contributions to launching the football programs at both Susquehanna and Montrose. The sportsmanship component also recognizes his years of service as a PIAA official in all three sports seasons.

A look at the past award winners follows:

2015 – Seth Bulkley, Montrose

The first in the series of awards went to Bulkley, a sophomore guard/defensive end, for his role in a 3-0 shutout victory at Susquehanna.

Montrose threw Susquehanna for 13 losses for 64 yards in the game. Bulkley had two sacks among four tackles for losses totaling 18 yards. His pass rush led to a key, third-down incompletion with the Meteors clinging to their lead in the last five minutes.

2016 – Kyle Donovan, Susquehanna

Following a pregame moment of silence to honor his mother, Leslie, who had died a month earlier, Donovan efficiently quarterbacked the Susquehanna option offense in a 21-7 road victory.

Donovan carried 19 times for 127 yards and completed five of seven passes for 63 yards. His execution of an option read and pitch freed Ian Townend to get to the corner for a 19-yard touchdown that opened the scoring.

2017 – Adam Roe, Susquehanna

Playing fullback, linebacker and even in the defensive line at just 159 pounds, Roe was still a force in many different areas during Susquehanna’s 32-18, home-field victory in the season opener.

Roe carried seven times for 23 yards, served as the lead blocker on other runs, and made a game-clinching interception in the final minute after being in on more than a dozen tackles. The tackles Roe was a part of were in the Montrose backfield six times, at the line of scrimmage three more times plus after gains of just one and two yards on other plays.

2018 – Gavin Baker, Susquehanna

The two-way end impacted a 36-6 victory at Montrose on both sides of the ball.

Baker had a sack and two other tackles for losses along with being part of the pile of defenders that forced a safety. He also caught a 34-yard pass for the game’s second-longest offensive play and was an effective blocker for the ground game.

2019 – Garrett Decker, Susquehanna

Decker was part of three touchdowns and did much more in a 44-13 win at home.

As quarterback, Decker threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. He also kicked an extra point, had a sack and made another tackle for a loss.

2020 – Calvin Scheideler, Susquehanna

The teams got together for one of the few games in the COVID-shortened season and an abbreviated effort by Scheideler was enough to claim the award.

Less than nine minutes into the game, Scheideler already had his only nine carries of the night, but had turned them into 161 yards and touchdowns of 24, 22 and 45 yards in the 51-0 rout. He also intercepted a pass, made three tackles and assisted on another.

2021 – Jesse DeLousia, Susquehanna and John Tyler, Montrose

The award was shared for the only time following Susquehanna’s 37-0 victory over visiting Montrose.

DeLousia caught three passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns as the Sabers opened a 30-0 lead at halftime.

Tyler returned from multiple injuries to help keep an undersized Montrose line from being overwhelmed. He made one sack and assisted on another along with making two other tackles for losses, all at times that prevented Susquehanna from adding even more points.

2022 – Colton Stone, Susquehanna

Stone combined duties at quarterback and defensive end to get Susquehanna past Montrose, 35-14.

All three first-half touchdowns came on Stone passes as the Sabers opened a 21-0 lead. He finished 11-for-20 for 197 yards and four touchdowns passing while also making five tackles.

2023 – William Marcy, Susquehanna

The dual-threat quarterback led a 40-0 rout by the Sabers at Montrose.

Marcy carried 13 times for 110 yards and completed three of his five passes for 85 yards.

2024 – Rykin Hobart, Susquehanna

On a night when the Sabers carried a shutout into the final seven minutes, the award went to the leader of a Susquehanna defense that allowed just 46 yards in a 42-6 victory at Montrose.

Hobart had three sacks. The sacks created 36 yards in losses and forced a fumble. Hobart also rushed the quarterback into two incompletions.
