Joe Holmes was a dominant force on both sides of the line for the Cavaliers. On defense, he was a three-year starter on the inside of the defensive line. He recorded 230 tackles including 57 tackles for losses over his career. He also added 17 sacks. Holmes played center his senior season and helped Prep rush for over 2,400 yards. As a captain, he guided the Cavaliers to a perfect regular season.
Holmes was named and NPF All-District offensive lineman and also named to the NPF Lackawanna Football Conference Division I first-team All-Stars his senior season on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. He was also selected to the WNEP Dream Team and attended Division 1 FBS Penn State to continue his football career.
Former Scranton Prep coach Nick Donato on Holmes: “Joe is among the best I have ever coached on both sides of the ball. When you watched his film, you would see him play with a motor from snap to whistle. A major contributor to our program since his sophomore year, Joe had a dominating senior season from his center and defensive tackle positions.”
