NAME: Roy Dennis
SCHOOL: Berwick
LAST SEASON: 2010
POSITIONS: DL
Berwick is synonymous with tough defense and Roy Dennis was one of the best to ever wear a Dawgs uniform. He was one of most aggressive defensive players in the Wyoming Valley Conference and ended up with over 180 career tackles and a school-record 45 sacks and was also a special teams demon.
Dennis was named NPF Wyoming Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. He was named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State team in both 2009 and 2010. Dennis was also a first-team defensive lineman by EasternPAFootball.com in 2010. Dennis continued his football career where he played four seasons at Division 2 Bloomsburg University as a defensive end.
Berwick play-by-play broadcaster Jim Doyle on Dennis: “George Curry once told me that he considered defensive end to be the most important position on defense in high school football. If that’s the case, then Roy Dennis was a very valuable player for the Bulldogs. He really got after the quarterback, and he was equally adept at stopping the run.”
