Recap

WILLIAMSPORT 43, SCRANTON 16

The Scranton Knights saw their 2025 campaign come to an end as a result of the virtuoso performance by Williamsport quarterback Tevin Williams. The Millionaires’ signal caller was too much for the Knights to contain as Williamsport defeated Scranton 43-16 in the District 2 Class 6A subregional semifinal. The Knights’ saw their final record slip to 2-9.

Scranton’s offense, plagued by turnovers all night long, committed their first of four ont ehir opening drive as they fumbled the football away to Williamsport. Williams skipped in from 7 yards out a few plays later to put Williamsport ahead 7-0.

After forcing a Scranton punt, Williams turned to the air, finding Lucas Naughton all alone behind the Knights’ secondary. Naughton raced to the end zone, completing a 79-yard scoring toss and the Millionaires led 14-0.

Ahead 14-0, Williams would notch his most impressive scoring play of the evening. Williams took a shotgun snap, eluded several Scranton tacklers, reversed his field twice, and outran the rest of the Scranton defense to make the score 22-0 after the successful two-point conversion.

Scranton’s special teams let them down near the end of the first half. With 3:07 remaining in the first half, the Knights dropped back to punt when Williamsport’s Austin Beaghley crashed through to send the ball toward the Scranton end zone. The football was eventually covered by Williamsport for another touchdown to extend the lead to 29-0.

But, unfortunately for the Knights, the first half mishaps had not yet come to an end. The Knights then fumbled the ensuing kickoff, setting the Millionaires up inside the Scranton red zone. Williams tossed a short screen pass to talented tailback Gio White who carried the football in from 7 yards out with 2:43 remaining in the half. At halftime, Williamsport led 36-0.

Williams would provide the coup de grace in the third quarter as he trotted untouched around left end on his way to a 37-yard scoring run. The Knights got touchdowns from Reece Whitman and Giovanni Garcia in the final period to avert the shutout.

Williamsport will visit Wilkes-Barre next weekend in the district subregional title game. The contest will be their second meeting in Wilkes-Barre in the span of 15 days as the Millionaires defeated the Wolfpack 28-21 in the final week of the regular season.
