Susquehanna at Riverside

Recap

RIVERSIDE 42, SUSQUEHANNA 7

Brayden Rose turned his last carry of the first half and his first two of the second half into touchdowns Friday night to help Jim Tucker come away from his head coaching debut with a victory as host Riverside downed Susquehanna, 42-7, in a non-league game between Lackawanna Football Conference teams.

Rose, a senior quarterback, carried 11 times for 123 yards. He also passed for a touchdown.

Charlie Anstett added 91 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Riverside fumbled inside the 5 on the final play of the scoreless first quarter, but got the ball back three plays later when Tyler Grill forced a fumble that Anstett recovered.

Ansett then took a handoff into the right side of the line and bounced out to get to the corner for a 26-yard touchdown on the next play. Christian Wheeler added the first of his six successful extra-point kicks.

Exavier Pelton forced another fumble that Markus Ngongo recovered at the 16.

Rose then rolled left and found Grill in the back of the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown on third-and-goal.

The Vikings made it 21-0 at halftime on a late 54-yard scramble by Rose.

Riverside scored 1:08 into the second half on a 21-yard Rose run, blocked a punt and reached the running clock less than five minutes in on Rose’s 2-yard run.

The Vikings went to their reserves, but scored on the next play when Carmelo Barnett broke a 66-yard touchdown run.

Susquehanna scored its only points in the closing seconds of the third quarter.

Gabe Maby, who played the first half and start of the second half at tailback, took over at quarterback and found Caedon Stone for a 28-yard touchdown.

Susquehanna is back on the field Thursday night for its annual home game under portable lights, meeting rival Montrose in the Battle for the Bluestone.

Riverside is scheduled to host Holy Cross, but the Crusaders opted out of their season opener because of a lack of players, leaving the status of the game uncertain.
