PITTSTON AREA 64, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 20

What began as a chaotic first quarter turned into a statement victory for Pittston Area. After surrendering an opening touchdown on a fumble return, the Patriots regrouped and stormed past Wyoming Valley West, pulling away for a commanding 64-20 triumph Friday night at Charlie Trippi Stadium.

The Spartans struck just 14 seconds into the game when Malique Campbell scooped up a loose ball on the kickoff and raced 82 yards to the end zone. But Pittston Area answered quickly. Quarterback Paulie Ferentino found Brody Spindler on a 28-yard scoring strike, and minutes later Lucas LoPresto returned a punt 63 yards for another touchdown.

Valley West briefly drew even when Damien Eastman connected with John Richards on a 42-yard bomb, knotting the game at 13-13 late in the first quarter. From that point forward, though, the night belonged entirely to the Patriots. Kayden Bailey plunged in from a yard out to close the quarter, giving Pittston Area a lead it would never surrender.

The second quarter showcased the Patriots’ firepower. Ferentino and LoPresto connected twice on long touchdown passes, covering 55 and 37 yards. A field goal before halftime stretched the advantage to 37-13.

After the break, Pittston Area’s offense continued its onslaught. Bailey churned out yards on the ground, finishing with 109 and a pair of touchdowns. Ferentino was near flawless, completing 11 of 16 passes for 290 yards and five scores. LoPresto dazzled again, hauling in seven receptions for 188 yards to go along with his punt return touchdown, giving him four trips to the end zone on the night.

Valley West’s lone bright spot came from Richards, who added another touchdown catch in the second half. But the Spartans had no answer for the Patriots’ balance and speed, falling to 0-4 on the season.

Pittston Area will travel to Dallas next week in a key WVC Division 1 matchup. Wyoming Valley West is home against Hazleton Area
