DALLAS 35, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 13

Sam Kelley spent the first six weeks of the season as the second-leading receiver at Dallas.

Friday night, he emerged as the team’s top runner.

Kelley carried 21 times for 185 yards and four touchdowns in his first extended action in the backfield while leading the Mountaineers to a 35-13 victory over visiting Wyoming Valley West in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game.

Three of Kelley’s scores came in the third quarter and the Dallas defense held Wyoming Valley West without a first down on its final five drives.

The Mountaineers overcame John Richards catching seven passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns for the Spartans. His touchdowns pulled Wyoming Valley West within 14-7 at halftime and 21-13 in the third quarter.

Kelley scored the game’s last two touchdowns, including a 61-yard run in the last minute of the third quarter.

Logan Geskey scored the other Dallas touchdown on a 16-yard run.

Dallas is just 2-5 overall, but sits alone in second place in the division at 2-1. The Mountaineers host Crestwood (1-1 in the division and 4-3 overall) Friday night.

Wyoming Valley West (1-2, 1-6) is at Wilkes-Barre Area (1-2, 4-3) in another Friday night WVC Division 1 game.
