VALLEY VIEW 52, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 21

The Valley View offense used numerous big plays to run away from Wyoming Valley West 52-21 in an interleague contest. The Cougars were bolstered by the play of Gabe Davis who scored one touchdown as a pass receiver and another as a kick-returner for the 5-4 Cougars.

Valley View notched the only score of the opening period as quarterback Caleb Brown found Davis, a big-play threat all year long, on a 35-yard strike. Braden Loff’s extra point made it 7-0 when the first quarter came to a close.

The second period marked the completion of big plays on both sides. The Spartans scored the first and last touchdowns of the quarter on bombs from Damian Eastman to John Richards. The first covered 64 yards and knotted the score at 7-7. On the ensuing kickoff, however, Davis tallied for the second time in the ball game by taking the kick and sprinting 80 yards for the touchdown to provide the Cougars’ answer. Loff’s point after made it 14-7.

The Cougars got two scoring runs later in the quarter. Brady Bachman rumbled in from 4 yards away and Tristan Smith added a 29-yard jaunt to make the score 28-7 in favor of Valley View. Wyoming Valley West was able to add another score before the half, courtesy of the combination of Eastman and Richards who struck from 59 yards away. The score at intermission was 28-14.

But it was the Cougars who scored the first 24 points of the second half to turn the game into a rout. Loff connected on a 34-yard field goal to open the heroics for the Cougars. Later in the third period, burly back Aidan Muchal carried over from the 3 to make it 38-14 after three periods.

Valley View got scoring runs from Janzier Rivera and Ethan Heid in the final period to make the final score 52-21.

The Cougars will host Wallenpaupack in a division contest to close the regular season. Wyoming Valley West, now 1-8, will attempt to keep their hopes of entering the district playoffs alive when they host Crestwood in the season finale for both teams.
