OLD FORGE 30, SUSQUEHANNA 0 

It took Old Forge 11 minutes to get on the scoreboard. And then another 11 minutes to score a touchdown. But once they found pay dirt, everything fell into place. 

The Blue Devils scored three second-half touchdowns in a span of 10 minutes to earn a 30-0 victory over Susquehanna on Senior Parents night at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Old Forge.

Wearing throwback uniforms, Old Forge (1-6) summoned its defense of the past, scoring nine points in defense and allowing the Sabers just five first downs and 115 yards of total offense.

Susquehanna (0-7) picked up a first down on its first play from scrimmage but would gain another until a penalty on Old Forge game then a first down two plays before halftime.

Seniors Will Wozniak and Jake Lucarelli caused havoc on the defensive front, combining for 12 tackles and four TFLs in the first half. Lucarelli put the Blue Devils on the board when he tackled Sabers running back Gabe Maby in the endzone for a safety and. 2-0 lead with less than a minute showing on the big board in the first half.

The solid defense gave Old Forge outstanding field position throughout the night. The Blue Devils finally cashed in when Chris Rasmus five-play drive with a five yard touchdown run with 46 seconds left in the first game. Josh Cistola made the first of his four successful PATs and Old Forge led 9-0 at the half.

Old Forge couldn’t convert on its first possession of the second half but one possession later quarterback Robby Solfanelli hit Rasmus first for a 21 yard gain and then for a 27 yard touchdown to give the Blue Devils a 16-0 lead with 3:07 left in the third quarter.

Solfanelli and Rasmus hooked up 11 times for 140 yards in the night as the senior signal caller finished 19-for-30 for 243 yards and two touchdowns.

Less than four minutes later, Lucarelli picked up a Susquehanna fumble and rumbled 35 yards for a touchdown. It was his second career defensive touchdown.

Solfanelli put the icing on the victory when he found sophomore Elio Castaldi for a seven yard touchdown and a 30-0 lead with 5:48 remaining in the game.

The Old Forge defense registered 10 TFLs, a sack, a safety, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and an Ayden Aversa interception in posting its first shutout of the season.

Wozniak finished with nine tackles and two TFLs, and Lucarelli added six tackles and three TFLs to go with his Thick-6. Sophomore Carson Honick finished with six stops and a TFL, and Senior Logan Lyons had four tackles, a TFL and a sack.

The Blue Devils travel to Dunmore to take on Holy Cross next week on Saturday afternoon while the Sabers host Lackawanna Trail that same day.
