SCRANTON PREP 37, WALLENPAUPACK 0

At Wallenpaupack, the Scranton Prep Cavaliers pitched a shutout, never allowing the Buckhorns to threaten to put points on the board after their first drive, while the Prep offense, rolled up over 400 total yards on their way to a 37-0 blanking of Wallenpaupack.

Wallenpaupack took the opening kickoff and, benefitting from an illegal participation penalty against Prep while the Buckhorns were lined up to punt, drove to the Prep 26. On 4^th and 13, a Buckhorn pass came up short of the line to make, giving Prep the ball, even though Wallenpaupack had run nearly half of the first quarter clock.

The Cavaliers, winners now of three straight after their three opening losses, proceeded to march 85 yards in 8 plays, aided by 2 Buckhorn penalties. Prep faced a 3^rd and 16 from their own 41 when Wallenpaupack was charged with illegal participation and then defensive pass interference, giving Prep a first down in Buckhorn territory. On 2^nd and goal from the 6, Prep signal-caller Will McPartland found Mackey Lynett in the end zone. Tyler Bianchi’s extra point made it 7-0 Prep with 2:16 left in the opening period.

On their next drive, the Buckhorns went for it on 4^th and 3 from their own 47. The Prep defense held. After Prep’s ensuing drive stalled, another Buckhorn drive came up short on 4^th and 3 from the Prep 38.

This time, the Cavaliers converted. Prep traveled 63 yards in just 6 plays, all on the ground. Junior back Braedon McPartland did the honors from 18 yards away, putting Prep up 14-0 with 3:19 left before the intermission.

After the Cavaliers forced Wallenpaupack to punt, the Prep offense took over with 1:14 left to play in the half on their own 18-yard line. A 25-yard pitch and catch from McPartland to A.J. Croom was the big play in the drive. Prep moved the ball to the Buckhorn 9 where Tyler Bianchi converted on a 26-yard field goal with just a few ticks left on the second quarter clock. Prep led 17-0 at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Cavaliers run away and hide. Prep took the second half kickoff and drove 57 yards in 5 plays, once again completely via the rush. Will McPartland opened the drive with a 24-yard scamper and the senior quarterback finished it from 2 yards out. Bianchi’s kick moved the Prep advantage to 24-0.

Will McPartland put the Cavaliers in business once again, intercepting a Buckhorn pass at the Wallenpaupack 30 and returning it 19 yards to the 11. Two plays later, Prep tailback Anthony Prince burst through from the 4. The extra point snap was fumbled and Prep led 30-0 with 7:28 still left in the third period.

Another Buckhorn punt was followed by another Cavalier scoring drive. That march went 53 yards in 7 plays and featured an 18-yard run by Will McPartland. The touchdown came when McPartland drifted back and rifled a dart to tight end Sean McCormack who was wide open in the Wallenpaupack secondary. The pass covered 20 yards and was followed by another Bianchi extra point, giving Prep their final margin of 37-0 with 2:51 left in the third quarter.

The Cavaliers will travel to Clarks Summit to face division rival, Abington Heights, next Friday evening. Wallenpaupack, now 2-4, will travel to Scranton to face the Knights in Week 7.
