SCRANTON 45, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 7
After a tough home loss last week, Scranton raced out of the gates to a 23-0 first quarter lead en route to a 45-7 victory against Wyoming Valley West in Kingston on Friday.
Reece Whitman rushed for 138 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half to lead the Knights.
Scranton took the opening kickoff and drove 74 yards on five plays with Whitman scoring from 20 yards for a 7-0 lead.
After the Spartans went three and out, a bad snap on the punt led to a 15-yard loss and one play later Whitman ran for a 15-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0.
Valley West went three and out again, and the punt unit struggled again with the snap going out of the end zone for a safety to make it 16-0.
The Knights took advantage of the free kick with a return in Spartans territory and four plays late, Brandon Dempsey caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Brody Coyle for a 23-0 lead after one quarter.
The onslaught continued in the second quarter with a six-play, 69 yard drive, keyed by a 48-yard pass from Coyle to Kamani Sterling to the Spartans 16.Whitman would score two plays later on a 12-yard run to make 30-0.
Wyoming Valley West went three and out again and then another bad snap went out of the end zone to make it 32-0.
Sterling then returned the free kick 58-yards for a touchdown and a 38-0 lead after a missed PAT.
After another punt by the Spartans, the Knights would finish their scoring for the night on a six-play, 78 yard drive with Whitman hitting paydirt for the fourth time with a 36-yard run.
The Knights would lead 45-0 at halftime.
Malique Campbell scored the only Valley West touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 57-yard run.
Wyoming Valley West (0-2) will travel to North Pocono next Friday while Scranton visits Pocono Mountain East.
