At Valley View, the Cougars allowed their defense to set them up with short fields en route to a 28-0 blanking of Scranton High School. In addition, the Valley View defense scored their own touchdown to combine with the passing connection of Caleb Brown and Gabe Davis which contributed two scores of their own.
After a scoreless first quarter in which the two squads damaged drives with costly penalties, the Cougar defense put their offense in position to get on the board. After an interception near midfield, Brown and Davis connected from 51 yards out. Braden Loff, who was perfect on the night, nailed the extra point to put the Cougars out in front, 7-0, with 8:45 left to play before intermission.
That score carried into the half. The Knights were forced to play much of the contest without quarterback, Brody Coyle, who was injured carrying the football in the second quarter.
The Cougars opened the second half with their most successful drive of the evening. Marching 69 yards in 7 plays, bruising back Tyler Muchal tallied his 4th rushing touchdown of the season on a 17-yard scamper with 8:07 remaining in the third period.
It was then that the Valley View defense was able to help out the offense. Aiden Muchal scooped up a Scranton fumble and galloped 34 yards to paydirt. Loff’s third point after extended the Cougar advantage to 21-0 with 2:30 left in the third frame.
After another Scranton fumble early in the fourth period, Brown found Davis behind the Scranton defenders with a 46-yard scoring aerial to finish the scoring for the Cougars at 28-0.
Valley View faces a huge test in Week 7 as they host undefeated and division-leading North Pocono. The Knights, losers of 2 straight after their Bell Game victory, will host Wallenpaupack next weekend.
