RIVERSIDE 55, SUSQUEHANNA 7
Brayden Rose threw four first-half touchdown passes to send Riverside on its way to a 55-7 rout of host Susquehanna in the Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 opener for both teams.
Rose ran the quick-strike attack that built a 28-0 halftime lead, then returned the second-half kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown to put the rest of the game in the Mercy Rule.
The Vikings scored on their first offensive play when Mitchell Muskey got behind the defense down the middle of the field and Rose hit him for a 63-yard touchdown.
Carmelo Barnett scored three touchdowns for Riverside, including catching two of Rose’s three second-quarter touchdown passes.
Barnett sandwiched a pair of 20-yard touchdown receptions around a 16-yarder to Max Jackson. Barnett also ran 34 yards for a score to send the Vikings into the fourth quarter with a 42-0 lead.
Ryder Hobart’s 14-yard run allowed Susquehanna to break the shutout with 6:22 left.
Charlie Ansett ran 25 yards for a TD and Carter Whetstone hit Cooper Borowski 4 yards for Riverside other touchdowns.
The Vikings (5-1 overall) will host Holy Cross (0-1 division, 3-3 overall) Friday.
Susquehanna (0-1, 0-6) will be at Old Forge, which takes an 0-5 record into Sunday’s game at Lackawanna Trail.
