HANOVER AREA 40, OLD FORGE 0

Dewayne Downey rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns to lead Hanover Area to its second straight win, a 40-0 victory over Old Forge at Hanover Area Memorial Elementary Stadium on Friday night.

Downey got this going for the Hawkeyes after a Deacon Eisenbach interception set up the home team at their own 45 yard line. The junior tailback scampered 37 yards on first down and Eisenbach went 10 yards on the next play to set up Downey’s one yard score with 7:05 left in the first quarter. Chance Hall drilled the first of this two PATs and Hanover Area (2-2) led 7-0.

Old Forge answered with a 10 play drive but Urijah Rivas sacked Robby Solfanelli on third down and Eisenbach recorded interception No. 2 to stop the Blue Devils at the Hawkeyes 18.

Six plays later Downey sprinted 41 yards for a touchdown and a 13-0 lead just under two minutes into the second quarter.

A bad snap on a punt attempt allowed Rivas to sack Josh Cistola in the endzone for a safety and seven plays later Logan Richardson found Eisenbach for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Downey added the two-point run and Hanover was ahead 23-0.

The Hawkeyes would tack on one more score before halftime when Hall buried a 44-yard field goal as time expired to increase the lead to 26-0 at intermission.

Dawin Downey got into the act with a 24-yard touchdown run with 8:42 left in the third quarter and one play later the freshman picked off a pass and returned it 35 yards for the score and a 40-0 advantage that put the game into the mercy rule.

Old Forge (0-4) struggled to run the ball again behind its young and inexperienced line, but was able to move the ball in the air as Solfanelli completed a career high 19 passes on 34 attempts for 160 yards.

Chris Rasmus continued to close in on the school record for career receptions, hauling in nine passes for 105 yards. The senior wide  is now 12 short of tying the mark of 101 set by Chris Schuback from 1994-96.

Hanover Area hosts undefeated Berwick next week while the Blue Devils return home to take on Western Wayne.
