PITTSTON AREA 46, MID VALLEY 9

Lucas Lo Presto returned a kickoff for a touchdown, scored another on a reception, and hauled in an interception on a two-point conversion try to lead Pittston Area to a 46-9 home win over Mid Valley.

Lo Presto’s touchdown reception came on the Patriots first offense possession, when he snagged a short pass from senior quarterback Paulie Ferrentino near the left sideline, eluded multiple defenders and stayed in bounds for the score.

Pittston led 7-0 after a quarter, and extended the lead to 13-0 early in the second frame, thanks to touchdown run by Jude Ferrentino, capping an 82-yard drive that featured a 45-yard run by Ferrentino.

A 25-yard field goal by freshman kicker Paxton Grebb got the Spartans on the board, pulling them to within 13-3 midway through the second. But on the ensuing kickoff, Lo Presto got a chance to make a return and he made it count. The junior speedster flew up the right hash, angled toward the sideline and simply outran anyone in the Mid Valley coverage unit who thought they might have an angle on him for a 90-yard score. That made it 19-3 in favor of Pittston. Just before halftime, Stephen Barnic caught the first of his two touchdowns on the night, giving the Patriots a 26-3 halftime lead.

Zak Ridgley added a short touchdown run early in the third, extending Pittston’s lead to 33-3.

Mid Valley fought to stay in the contest, when Brett Yanoski was chased from the pocket and, on the run, hit freshman Nick Hricenal with a 37-yard touchdown strike to pull within 33-9.

But the Patriots added Barnic’s second score of the night, along with a late touchdown run by freshman Santino Capitano to pull away for the 45-10 win.
