LACKAWANNA TRAIL 35, CARBONDALE AREA 7

At Carbondale Area, Lackawanna Trail used a familiar recipe, the heroics of Isaac Ryon, to down the Chargers 35-7. Ryon scored three touchdowns for the once-beaten Lions and added a two-point conversion to help overcome Carbondale, who fell to 4-3. The Chargers, who did not get on the board until late in the football game, were hampered by untimely penalties that erased two touchdowns and other big plays.

Trail’s offense was run-heavy behind the Delaware Wing T. Quarterback Tyler Jervis was the first to get into the end zone for the Lions, scoring on a 1-yard sneak with 5:56 remaining in the opening quarter. The extra point was no good, and the Lions led 6-0, the first of their 35 unanswered points.

Early in the second quarter, Ryon flashed his great athletic ability to provide the game’s signature play. Ryon took a pitch and rambled 85 yards to the end zone. The two-point conversion made it 14-0 with 11:33 left to play before intermission.

The Lions, who have been dominant in the first half all year long, scored again with 4:43 remaining in the half. Once again it was Ryon who did the honors, this time scooting in from 8 yards away. Joey Thomas’s extra point made it 21-0 for the visitors.

Ryon had one more score left in him before the first half was concluded. This time, Jervis found him open on a screen pass which Ryon carried 16 yards for the score. The extra point was no good, providing Trail with a 27-0 halftime advantage.

The Lions were able to put the game into the mercy rule situation when Jervis danced 19 yards with 8:41 left in the third period. Ryon bullied over for the two-point conversion and Trail led 35-0.

The Chargers were able to get on the board midway through the final period. Caedon Voglino sprinted 40 yards for Carbondale Area to make the final score 35-7.

Trail will host Susquehanna next Saturday afternoon in their final home game of the season as they attempt to run the table in Division 3. Carbondale Area will host Riverside in Week 8.
