HOLY REDEEMER 27, SUSQUEHANNA 20
Brady McDermott passed for four touchdowns to lead the way as Holy Redeemer snapped its 24-game losing streak with a 27-20 victory over host Susquehanna.
The Royals won in what was Susquehanna’s annual game under portable lights at William Emminger Memorial Field.
McDermott rallied Holy Redeemer in the fourth quarter with a 5-yard pass to Kaden Sepkoski, then another connection on the two-pointer.
When Mike Zbierski made an interception near midfield on the game’s final play, the Royals had their first win since beating Montrose 34-12 in the final game of the 2022 regular season.
Holy Redeemer then lost in the 2022 playoffs and suffered through two straight 0-10 seasons. The Royals began this season, their under new coach Vito Quaglia, with three more losses.
McDermott threw three of his touchdown passes in the first half for a 19-6 lead.
Both teams scored on fourth-down plays in the first quarter, which ended in a 6-6 tie.
Gabe Maby rolled out and found Mason Keyes in the back of the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown and Susquehanna’s first score.
Ryder Hobart ran for two touchdowns and a two-point conversion, putting Susquehanna ahead 20-19 in the first minute of the fourth quarter.
Holy Redeemer (1-3) hosts Lake-Lehman (1-3) Sept. 20 at Wyoming Valley West’s Spartan Stadium at 7 p.m.
Susquehanna (0-4) is at Lakeland (3-1) Friday night.
