LACKAWANNA TRAIL 53, HOLY CROSS 12
Behind six touchdowns and over 200 yards rushing from tailback Isaac Ryon, Lackawanna Trail improved their record to 8-1 with a 53-12 trouncing of Holy Cross. The Lions will face Riverside next week to determine the champion of Division 3 of the Lackawanna Football Conference.
Ryon staked the Lions to an early lead by tallying four times in the opening quarter of the football game. Runs of 18, 39, and two 29-yard touchdown jaunts put Lackawanna Trail out ahead to stay. On the defensive side of the football, Tyler Jervis grabbed a loose football deep in Holy Cross territory and skipped 3 yards into the end zone. At the end of one quarter, Lackawanna Trail led 34-0.
In the second period, Ryon took a handoff from Jervis in the Delaware Wing-T and sprinted 30 yards for his fifth touchdown of the evening. Holy Cross countered late in the half when Kevin Vincent powered in from five yards away. The first half came to a close with the scoreboard reading 41-6 in favor of the Lions.
Ryon completed his scoring for the night in the third period, this time dancing in from the 5. Jervis added his second defensive touchdown by stepping in front of a Chase Rutkoski pass and racing 87 yards for the final Trail score of the evening. Rutkoski notched the final score for Holy Cross on a 9-yard keeper.
Trail visits Taylor next week to face 8-1 Riverside in the clash that will determine the division titlist. Holy Cross, now 3-6, finishes their regular season schedule next weekend at home against Susquehanna.
