BERWICK 49, HANOVER AREA 9

Ty’Meere Wilkerson continued what is now the greatest running season in the illustrious history of Berwick football and the Bulldogs carried their perfect record into the District 2 Class 3A championship game.

Wilkerson rushed 16 times for 283 yards and five touchdowns Friday night as Berwick downed visiting Hanover Area 49-9 in a semifinal game at Crispin Field.

The Bulldogs (11-0) will host four-time defending champion Scranton Prep (6-5) in Friday’s championship game.

Wilkerson pushed his season totals to 2,706 yards and 39 touchdowns. The previous bests by a Berwick runner were Brant Quick’s 2,436 yards and 35 touchdowns in 2004.

Hanover Area scored first on a 30-yard Chance Hall field goal and held Berwick scoreless until three seconds remained in the first quarter.

Wilkerson put the Bulldogs ahead then with a 53-yard run. He added 50- and 6-yard touchdowns in the second quarter and scores of 4 and 32 yards in the third.

Caleb May also scored on a 43-yard run in the first minute of the second half as Berwick, which did not throw a pass, rushed for 405 yards.

Logan Richardson found Dawin Downey with a 5-yard touchdown pass for Hanover Area early in the fourth quarter to end Berwick’s streak of 42 unanswered points.

Brady Cleaver then ran 25 yards for the final Bulldogs touchdown.

Hanover Area finished 6-5.
