Dunmore at Lackawanna Trail

LACKAWANNA TRAIL 30, DUNMORE 28

In a game where each team scored four touchdowns, it was a special teams play that pushed Lackawanna Trail past Dunmore 30-28 in a non-conference matchup.

A bad snap on a punt went over the head of Bucks’ punter Logan Miller and out of the end zone for the deciding two points. Dunmore never touched the football the rest of the game.

Before that sequence, both team had big plays and kept throwing counter punches throughout the contest.

Dunmore took the opening kickoff 13 plays and 80 yards that ate up 8:46 off the clock, capped off by a Weston Yannone 4-yard touchdown run. The Bucks converted a 4th and 16 on the drive when Yannone scrambled for 26 yards.

Lackawanna Trail answered immediatrly. Isaac Ryon took the Lions’ first play from scrimmage 59 yards for  touchdown and tie the game 7-7.

On the next drive, Yannone was intercepted by Sean Dwyer and  two plays later Ryon struck again with a 25-yard touchdown run to give Trail their first lead of the game.

After exchanging punts, Dunmore tied the game on Yannone’s 41-yard run.

Both teams would punt again, but the Lions would strike on the first play of their next drive through the air when Tyler Jervis connected with Timmy Richmond for 43-yard touchdown pass which would give Trail a 21-14 halftime lead.

The Bucks would force a fumble on the first drive of the second half and would tie the game again on another 13 play drive that went 91 yards this time. Xavier Burke scored on a 4-yard run.

Lackawanna Trail would score on the first play of the 4th quarter when Jervis completed a pass to Ryon on a screen and the senior running back did the rest racing 31 yards for the go-ahead score. Dunmore would answer on the next drive with Yannone using his arm to move down the field completing passes to Miller for 18 yards and Jack McHale for 36 yards. Two plays later, Yannone would sneak into the end zone from 1 yard out to tie the game 28-28.

Each team had a couple drives in the second half, but the last one by Dunmore went backwards on a penalty and a sack by Kaylix Douglas. That led the to the punt inside the 20 and the ill-fated snap that gave Trail the win.

Dunmore will be on the road next Friday at Carbondale while Lackawanna Trail visits Mid Valley
