CARBONDALE 40, MONTROSE 0

Francisco Roman ran for three scores in the first quarter and Carbondale added two defensive touchdowns in the second quarter on the way to a 40-0, non-league victory at Montrose Friday night.

Roman followed the right side of the line into the end zone for touchdowns of 3, 14 and 2 yards in the first quarter.

Jaiden Keller returned a fumble 8 yards for a score midway through the second quarter and Nick Roman returned an interception 33 yards a little more than a minute later for a 33-0 lead that the Chargers carried into halftime.

Cole Balderas ran 7 yards for a touchdown with one second left in the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter was played under the Mercy Rule.

The Chargers improved to 4-2. They are 1-0 in Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 where they will play their remaining four games, including Friday at home against defending champion Lackawanna Trail. The Lions were 4-1 overall heading into their division opener this weekend against Old Forge.

Montrose, which is playing an independent schedule, is at Holy Redeemer Oct. 4 at Wyoming Valley West’s Spartan Stadium. The Meteors are 1-5. The Royals were 1-4 prior to a Saturday afternoon game at Holy Cross.
