CARBONDALE 46, HOLY REDEEMER 13
Carbondale Area wasted little time seizing control Saturday afternoon, scoring on its first play from scrimmage and rolling past Holy Redeemer, in a non-league matchup at Spartan Stadium.
Running back Francisco Roman ignited the Chargers with a 15-yard touchdown run to open the game, then later broke free for a 60-yard score in the second quarter. Carbondale’s special teams and defense also chipped in, with Jahquest Kirby returning a blocked punt for a touchdown and the defense forcing multiple miscues that set up short fields.
By halftime, the Chargers had built a commanding 40–0 lead behind additional touchdowns from Cole Becchetti on a 6-yard reception, Cole Balderas on a 29-yard run, and Caedon Voglino on a 3-yard plunge.
Holy Redeemer showed some fight in the third quarter. David Jackiel electrified the Royals sideline with an 85-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Brady McDermott later connected with tight end Kaden Sepkoski for a 14-yard strike after a turnover. But Carbondale answered in the fourth when Nick Roman rumbled 47 yards for the final score.
Carbondale finished with 342 yards of total offense, including 278 on the ground. Roman led the way with 95 rushing yards on just five carries. McDermott went 7-of-14 for 58 yards to pace the Royals, while Jackiel provided 85 yards rushing on five carries.
The victory improved Carbondale to 1–1, while Holy Redeemer slipped to 0–3, still searching for its first win of the season.
