WYOMING AREA 55, HANOVER AREA 7

By Tom Robinson

NANTICOKE – Wyoming Area surpassed 50 points for the third time in its four-game winning streak Friday night.

The Warriors got there in a hurry.

Wyoming Area needed just 20 plays for its eight scoring drives and was only stopped when it chose to kneel with the ball to end each half of a 55-7, Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 romp over Hanover Area at Frank Chicknoski Stadium.

The Warriors scored their 28 second-quarter points in seven plays, including two of the three times in the game that they scored in a single play.

“We got some big plays from some of our outstanding skill guys,” Wyoming Area coach Randy Spencer said. “Lidge Kellum and (Luke) Kopetchny. I think (Anthony) DeLucca threw the ball exceptionally well; Trustin Johnson and Mike Crane.”

How well did DeLucca throw the ball?

He hit all seven of his attempts for 128 yards and three touchdowns.

Kellum ran for two scores while Kopetchny caught two touchdown passes.

The Warriors opened leads of 21-0 after one quarter and 49-7 at halftime.

They scored the last touchdown with three minutes left in the third quarter with the second half in eight-minute quarters with a running clock. The fourth quarter featured just nine snaps.

Kellum finished with 111 yards on five carries, including a 62-yard run on the game’s fourth play to open the scoring.

Michael Crane, Trustin Johnson and Oliver Bolin ran for the Wyoming Area scores.

Hanover Area scored after falling behind 42-0, when Jonathan Otway-Kellom returned the kickoff 91 yards.

Wyoming Area held Hanover Area to minus-31 yards rushing and minus-15 yards total offense while picking up 453.

Crane had three tackles for losses while Josh Mruk had a sack and another tackle for a loss.

Wyoming Area, the defending champion, shares the division lead with Lake-Lehman heading into Friday night’s showdown at Anthony “Jake” Sobeski Stadium. Both teams are 3-0 in the division. The Warriors are 6-1 while the Black Knights are 5-2.
