DALLAS 41, WILKES-BARRE 33

Dallas found a ground game just in time for its Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 opener and found its way into the win column for the first time this season.

Dylan Geskey ran for four touchdowns to lead the defending champion Mountaineers to a 41-33 victory over visiting Wilkes-Barre.

Geskey and quarterback Brady Zapoticky each rushed for more than 100 yards for Dallas, which struggled on the ground during its 0-3 start.

The four Geskey scores, along with one by Zapoticky, came during a 26-minute stretch, from late in the first half until late in the game, when the Mountaineers outscored the Wolfpack, 34-13.

Wilkes-Barre led 14-7 before Geskey’s first touchdown took the game into halftime tied, 14-14.

Geskey broke that tie and broke the last tie (21-21) with short touchdown runs in the third quarter. His 38-yard touchdown with 3:05 left opened the game’s biggest lead at 41-27.

Davon Underwood scored three touchdowns and Treyvon Gembitski caught two of Jake Howe’s three touchdown passes. Underwood ran for his other two scores, including a 64-yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead after one quarter.

Wilkes-Barre (1-3 overall) closed the scoring on a 5-yard pass from Howe-to-Gembitski with 13 seconds left, but could not get to the on-side kickoff.

Dallas (1-3) broke a four-game losing streak since taking a 14-0 record into last year’s state Class 4A final.
