SCRANTON PREP 42, WALLENPAUPACK 13

At Dunmore High School, Scranton Prep won their third consecutive game  with a convincing 42-13 victory on Homecoming over Wallenpaupack.

After both teams punted on their opening possessions, Scranton Prep junior linebacker Andrew Dempsey intercepted a tipped pass from Buckhorn quarterback, Drew Kiesendahl. The turnover set the Cavaliers up at the Wallenpaupack 25-yard line. After a holding penalty pushed Prep into a 2^nd and goal from the 20, quarterback Louis Paris threw a lateral pass to senior wingback, Treyvon Dickey, who outraced the Buckhorn defenders to the end zone. Tyler Bianchi’s kick made it 7-0 with 3:15 left in the opening quarter.

Wallenpaupack attempted to go for it on 4^th and 2 from their own 36-yard line on their next possession. The Buckhorns were thrown for a one-yard loss, once again by Dempsey. On the very next play, Paris found senior wideout Brady Holmes behind the Wallenpaupack secondary from 35-yards away. That made the score 14-0 with just less than a minute to play in the first period.

In the second stanza, the Buckhorns hit paydirt. Chewing up over 5 minutes of the second quarter clock on 14 plays, Wallenpaupack marched 70 yards. The drive concluded on an 11-yard lob pass from Drew Kiesendahl to Ed Kiesendahl, which cut the Prep advantage to 14-7.

Prep took the ensuing kickoff and mounted a 66-yard scoring drive that took seven plays, all passes. Paris completed five of those tosses, the final one connecting with Treyvon Dickey for 20 yards and a touchdown with just 13 seconds left before halftime. Bianchi’s kick made it 21-7 at the intermission.

The Cavaliers took the second half kickoff and marched 66 yards again, this time on 8 plays. The key play was a 51-yard pass and run to Holmes which placed the ball at the Buckhorn 4-yard line. Paris found Dickey for his third touchdown of the night. With 8:23 left in the third quarter, the score was 28-7.

A Prep turnover led to Wallenpaupack’s only touchdown of the second half. Dickey fumbled after receiving a pass from Paris, setting the Buckhorns up at the Prep 42. After Drew Kiesendahl scampered around right end for 26 yards to the Prep 4, Logan Caruso toted the football the final distance for the score. The extra point try failed, making it 28-13.

For the third time in the football game, Prep notched a 66-yard scoring drive, one that began with a 22 -yard burst from junior tailback, Will McPartland. On first and 10 from the Wallenpaupack 32, Paris handed to fullback Reese Tanner who converted the trap play into a sprint to the end zone. Prep led 35-13 with 1:02 left in the third quarter.

Prep launched one last scoring drive in the final period, highlighted by a 32-yard ramble by sophomore back, Anthony Prince. Prince was later rewarded for his efforts as he scooted the final 10 yards to the end zone, finishing the scoring at 42-13.

Next weekend, Scranton Prep (5-1, 4-0) will play host to rival Abington Heights, while Wallenpaupack (3-3, 1-2) will attempt to rebound from their second consecutive loss when they return home to face the Knights of Scranton High School.
