VALLEY VIEW 35, WYOMING VALLEY WEST 10
Valley View rebounded from a slow start with 21 unanswered points in the first half to defeat Wyoming Valley West 35-10. The Cougars clinched the No. 1 seed in Class 4A and won their 8th straight game.
The Spartans came out strong as Carson Brown completed long pass plays to Leland Alexander and Tyler Ruddy. Brown would score from 1 yard out for a suprising 7-0 lead.
After a penalty on the kickoff, Valley View went 3 and out but then forced the Spartans to do the same.
The Cougars got in gear with an 8-play, 57 yard drive capped off by Preston Reed’s 2 yard touchdown run to tie the game 7-7
Valley West went three and out again and the Cougars would drive to the Spartans 32. On a 4th and 8, Zach Cwalinski found Beyon McLean in the end zone for a 32-yard touchdown pass and a 14-7 lead.
The Cougars defense would force another punt and Valley View would have another 8-play drive – this time cover 59 yards with Nick Kucharski scoring on a 6-yard run.
The Spartans would drive before halftime, but had to settle for a Roger Staron 25-yard field goal for a 21-10 deficit.
Valley View took total control of the second half.
Cwalinski threw his second touchdown pass of the game finding Jack Kovack with a short pass that turned into a 27-yard score.
Valley View’s Joey Valvano would score from 1 yard out in the early 4th quarter to finish the scoring.
Kucharski finished the night with 140 rushing yards. McLean had three receptions for 67 yards.
Valley View (8-1) will visit Wallenpaupack next Friday night while Wyoming Valley West (0-9) finishes their regular season at Crestwood.
