VALLEY VIEW 34, SCRANTON 21

Preston Reed rushed for 202 yards and Zach Cwalinski scored three touchdowns as Valley View pulled away in the fourth quarter to top Scranton 34-21.

Both teams had trouble stopping each other in the first half.

Scranton took the opening drive 9 plays for 67 yards with Reece Whitman scoring from the 3 for a 7-0 Knights lead.

Valley View answered with 12-play, 87 yard drive with Nick Kucharski finishing the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run, but the extra point was blocked to maintain Scranton’s lead 7-6.

The Knights would have another 9-play drive for 72 yards with Brody Coyle scoring on a 16-yard run and a 14-6 lead

But the Cougars answered with an 11-play, 87 drive with Reed scoring from 4 yards out and a successful 2-point conversion run tied the game at 14-14. Both teams would finally get a stop at the end of the half with Valley View forcing a punt and Scranton’s Tae Weeks intercepting a deep pass from Cwalinski finish the half tied.

After a 34-yard kickoff return from Gabe Davis set up Valley View at midfield, this drive only took four plays with Cwalinski scoring on a 3-yard run and a 20-14 lead. Reed had 48 rushing yards on the drive.

Another long drive for Scranton, 10 plays 72 yards with Coyle scoring his second touchdown of the night in a 3-yard run and a 21-20 lead.

But the Cougars owened the fourth quarter. A 12-play drive that went 77 yard with Cwalinski scoring a 3-yard run and Valley View back on top 26-21

The Cougars forced a three and out and after the punt, Valley View would put the game away as Cwalinski run in for his third touchdown and a 34-21 lead. Scranton would turn the ball over the downs to end the game.

Valley View (5-1, 2-1) will travel to North Pocono next Friday. Scranton (4-2, 0-2) will also hit the road at Wallenpaupack.
